
Prof. Saed Zyoud, Director of the Poison Control and Drug Information Center and faculty member at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Prof. Amer El-Hamouz from the Department of Chemical Engineering, represented An-Najah National University at the Regional Conference on “Health Vigilance, Air Quality, and Sustainable Management of Hazardous Medical Waste,” held at the Arab Planning Institute in Kuwait on April 21–22, 2025.
The conference brought together international experts to exchange knowledge and present solutions in the fields of medical and pharmaceutical waste management, environmental pollution, and sustainable development.
Prof. Zyoud delivered two keynote sessions focused on integrating health vigilance concepts into academic curricula and discussing research challenges related to solid and pharmaceutical waste in the Arab world. Prof. El-Hamouz also spoke in two sessions on modern technologies in waste management and successful Arab experiences in improving air quality and managing hazardous medical waste.
Key topics addressed included raising public awareness, non-incineration treatment methods, environmental legislation, and integrating environmental issues into education. The conference concluded with recommendations to incorporate waste management and air quality topics into university curricula, support postgraduate research, update environmental policies, and promote sustainable practices across healthcare institutions.
Both professors expressed their appreciation to University President Prof. Abdel Naser Zaid for his continued support. Prof. Zaid, in turn, praised the University's role in advancing scientific research and contributing to sustainable solutions for regional and global challenges.
